UA Star Program for Staff Recognition

Your College of Science Staff Advisory Council (CoSSAC) continues to develop ideas to thank staff members for their valued efforts. The UA Star* program is intended to increase the opportunity and frequency for them to receive a "public pat on the back."

SPECIFICS - WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Anyone may nominate a classified staff member or appointed personnel within the same department or from outside their department for this award. A staff member must have completed their initial six-month probation period, be in good standing with the department,  and be a benefits eligible employee.  This does not include faculty members, post-docs or students. 

*Note: Nominations for groups as well as individuals are encouraged!

HOW DO I NOMINATE SOMEONE?

Download the .pdf (nomination form ) or submit a letter/email, including the nominee's name and your name, with a description of why you think the person should be recognized for his/her efforts and talents. Submit your nomination to Amy Anderson, by the 10th of the month prior to the awarding month.

CRITERIA

The committee will be looking to recognize individuals who:

	Perform job duties “above and beyond” what is normally expected
	Improve efficiency in the workplace
	Demonstrate - through attitude and actions - a willingness to help others and work as a team

Nominations should contain a creative paragraph and include examples in the description of the person and his/her talents. Photos can even be used to enhance the nomination.

DEADLINES

The Staff Recognition Committee will evaluate the submitted nominations and make their selections for each award month – March, July and November. Submit your nominations by the 10th of the month prior to the awarding month.

AWARD DATE and PRESENTATION

The nominator will be informed if their nominee has been selected. A date, time and location will be arranged for the presentation. It is at the discretion of the nominator if s/he will provide a cake/refreshments and whom in the department to invite. Awards are presented to 3-4 individuals and one group selected from the nominations. The selected individuals will be awarded a modest gift of appreciation and a UA Star certificate, a trophy, and a special presentation by the Committee.

IS THERE A LIMIT TO HOW MANY TIMES A PERSON CAN WIN?

You may nominate an individual numerous times within a calendar year. A staff member is eligible to receive the UA Star award once each year. The limitation is meant to allow a wide range of staff members to receive the award each year.
