COSSAC Meeting Minutes:  July 12, 2005

In attendance: Mike Brunke (Atmospheric Sciences), Julia McMorran (Chemistry), Gina Bailey (Chemistry), Ana Rodriguez (Computer Science), Susan Hautala (Dean's Office), Katy Gonzales (EEB), Suzanne LaClair (EEB), Marilyn Kramer (MCB), Karen Woerner (Physics), Eva Gonzales (Physics), Alex Leonard (Physics), and Catalina Diaz-Silva (Steward Observatory).

Departments not represented: biochemistry, geosciences, Tree Ring Lab, math, planetary sciences, speech and hearing sciences.

Meeting convened at 9:33.

Ana Rodriguez gave a financial report for Fiscal Year 2004/05. The FRS account had $1150 at the beginning of the fiscal year. Revenue from concessions ($3096.08) added in October and December 2004 and January 2005. Also added was what the Dean gives us every year in December 2004 ($5906). Expenses came to $8,866 which included the Luncheon and sending staff members to the SkillPath Workshop in April. That has left us with $1,287 in the FRS at the end of the fiscal year. Ted Davis knows nothing about $2000 being given to us by the Dean and believes that there is only $1000 in the Foundation account originally given to establish the account. He wants something in writing signed by the Dean. Mike will set up a meeting with the Dean to get such a signature.

Mike has received Dotty Sherwood's application. She has been invited to the Lattice Conference in Dublin, Ireland this year, since she will be running the conference when it comes to Tucson next year. She needs to go this year in order to familiarize herself with how the conference is run. She has asked for 3-days per diem and is also asking for the registration fees. It was decided to partially cover her per diem ($300), since she had originally only asked for that.

Another person has asked the Council for money to attend a conference. Her name is Ellie Warder, who will be attending the Arizona Fundraising Professionals Conference at Loews Ventana Canyon here in Tucson July 21 and 22. She has asked for CoSSAC to cover her registration fees ($275), since her department does not have any money to cover professional development costs. It was decided to cover a little over half her registration fees or $150.

Several people from CoSSAC will be at a meeting for the Walk on Wednesday, July 13 at 7:30 am.
